Cholly Bolland starts his new job as chief executive officer of Headwaters Health Care Centre in Orangeville in September. He is replacing Bob Baynham, who retired on July 18.
Aside from looking forward to the challenge of his new job, Cholly is also excited about moving to the area for personal reasons. His parents live in Barrie, and he said it will be nice to move his young family closer to them.
His wife, Debbie, is a teacher and their children are Callum, 10, and Charise, six.
“This will be the closest I’ve lived to my family in my whole adult life,” he said.
Bolland comes to the post with nearly two decades of experience.
Most recently, he was CEO of Arnprior and District Memorial Hospital Corporation, where he was instrumental in helping Arnprior achieve one of the top patient satisfaction results for Ontario. Under his leadership, Arnprior was recognized by the Ontario Hospital Association as a high-performing hospital.
During a tour of Headwaters last Friday (July 18), Bolland, 47, told The Banner that as CEO, he hopes to “continue the great work of Headwaters Health Care Centre. It has an enviable reputation in providing health care to the community.”
Bolland has held a number of health care management roles during his career, including serving as CEO at Kitimat and Area Health Council/Kitimat General Hospital in British Columbia, Community Care Access Centre Timiskaming and Health Services Administrator for the Northern Health Authority. Bolland has also worked as a consultant with the Children’s Hospital in Ottawa and the Ministry of Health.
“We are excited to have attracted Cholly... he understands the important link between our hospital and community,” said Margot Hornseth, chair of the Board of Directors, Headwaters Health Care Centre, in a news release.
“We have the utmost confidence in Cholly’s ability to bring together the resources to advance our mission of delivering patient-centred, compassionate care close to home.”
Cholly is a fellow of the American College of Health Executives and earned his Certified Health Executive designation from the Canadian College of Health Service Executives in 2002. He received a Master of Business Administration in 2000 and a Master of Health Administration in 1992 from the University of Ottawa. He graduated from Queen’s University in 1984 with a bachelor’s degree in Science and Engineering.
