Let the police do their job
Friday August 22 2008

Dear editor,
With reference to your front-page picture and caption on Aug.15 stating "Police have been tight-lipped about their purpose ... The Banner has made numerous attempts to gather more information, to no avail."
Do you wonder why the police aren't saying what they're looking for? Do you think it's possible that releasing such information might compromise their investigation? And yet The Banner tries to get information out of them.
Suppose one of the officers cracked under your interrogation. What would you do with the information? Front page exclusive! Bang goes months of hard work, and a criminal escapes justice.
Respect their work. If they're not talking, it's for a reason. Personally, I'd rather have their investigation come to a fruitful conclusion, rather than spend two minutes reading your exclusive.
S. Nichols,
Orangeville
