Taxi companies should stop whining
Tuesday August 26 2008

Dear editor,
These Orangeville taxi companies need to stop their whining and start thinking outside the box. Not so much with the cost of fuel, but primarily about the partygoers. So what if someone pukes in the back seat.
Now they are blaming the bars? Come on. The bars are not to blame for over-serving people. Anyone who has been in the party scene in Orangeville for the last 15 years knows that most people, on Friday and Saturday nights, don't even show up to the bar until past midnight, after they have been pre-drinking at home or somewhere else.
What is going to happen when the Humber campus is up and running?
The good books say that school is a place to learn, but anyone that wasn't born yesterday knows full-out that college is one big party, where the majority of OSAP money gets spent on booze and drugs.  We’re going to need cabbies then, unless the Town of Orangeville prohibits alcohol and partying entirely. To me, that seems to be the intent as of late.
If taxi companies close up shop, what do you think will happen? It will simply just create a demand and someone will supply it one way or another. There are plenty of greedy and eager people out there, especially from the city, that would be glad to come in and rake in all the profits. A lot of cabbies in the city use propane, and they have a lot more to deal with when it comes to party-goers and such down there.
Orangeville would be a walk in the park. As for those that ride and dash — why not charge flat rates up front during night hours?
For any problem, there are solutions. However in this day in age, crying like a spoiled child seems to be the preferred method when an issue comes about.
