Orangeville Music Theatre has kicked off its 30th season with a sensational production of the seldom-performed classic Once Upon A Mattress. I caught the opening night performance of this hilarious musical version of the fairy tale The Princess and the Pea and I can assure you that OMT has a real winner on its hands! Director/ choreographer Aimee Lococo and musical director Carole Filion have put together a terrific cast of local community actors that includes Christina Huth, Dale Lundy, Jim Murphy, Jordan John Davidson, Keilagh Noseworthy, Lauren Murphy, Lenore Terry, Pam Hewitt, Samantha Russell, Andrew Cleveland, Daniell Gamache, Frank Rempel, Jesse Price, Laura Conning, Lorraine Fennell, Michala Todd, Samantha Harrigan, Cathleen King, Liz Glenday, James O’Connor, Kirsten Adamson, Lindsay van der Grinten, Martin Glassford and Sabrina Araujo. Every single one of them deserved the rousing standing ovation that they received last night! Bravo! Performances take place at the Orangeville Town Hall Opera House on June 6, 7, 13 and 14 at 8 p.m. and June 8 and 14 at 2 p.m. For tickets call 888-486-3399 or email boxoffice@ orangevillemusictheatre.com.

Don’t miss the Sarah Dale Duo performing jazz standards, with special guest Ryan Grist, at Joppa Dessert & Coffee Lounge on June 7 at 10 a.m. Saxophonist Sarah Dale and guitarist Trevor Giancola will brighten up your morning cup of Joe for sure!

Photographer Ila Sisson has scheduled a photo exhibit of her work in Orangeville this June. The exhibition of Ila’s work will be held at Yoga in the Hills Studio located at 28 Mill St. Join Ila on June 28 from 12 to 4 p.m. or for the reception that night from 6 to 9 p.m.
The show continues on June 29 from 1 to 4 p.m. A portion of all sales will be donated to Choices Youth Shelter. Ila can be reached at 519-216-3115 and would be pleased to speak with you if you wish to contact her for more detailed information.

Auditions for the Theatre Orangeville Youth Singers (TOYS) will be held at Covenant Alliance Church, 3 Zina St., Orangeville on June 24 and 25. The choirs will have performance opportunities in 2008/2009 in Theatre Orangeville’s production of A Christmas Carol, the TOYS spring show at the Opera House as well as other local events. Please prepare a song to sing a cappella. Children aged eight and up with unchanged voices will be auditioned to form the three choirs. Please call the Theatre Orangeville box office at 519-942-3423 to book an audition time.

Laura Bird, Marianne Girard, Heather Katz, Tannis Slimmon, Katherine Wheatley and Chris MacLean, better known as The Pomelos, invite you to attend an outdoor backyard potluck luncheon and afternoon concert for all those left out in the cold the evening of March 8, during Orangeville’s “storm of the century.” The Pomelos Plus will gather for a rare appearance at a potluck picnic. They will honour tickets previously sold for the Opera House concert, however a donation would be greatly accepted from others enjoying the fruits of this day’s performance. The concert takes place on June 15 from 1 to 6 p.m.
Festivities begin at 1 p.m., luncheon at 1:30 p.m. and the concert at 2:30 p.m. For tickets and more details, connect with Michael and Heather at 519-921-0088 or at jazzland@sympatico.ca.
