Orangeville high school students will be running on a different schedule next fall. The school day will start and finish a little later in an effort to save on transportation costs.
“A lot of this has to do with trying to be far more efficient with our transportation routing,” explains Maggie McFadzen, communications officer for the Upper Grand District School Board. “We are constantly working on those routes to get them more efficient.”
The first class of the day at Orangeville District secondary school will begin at 8:50 a.m. and wrap up at 3:10 p.m. At Westside secondary school, the school day will run from 8:55 a.m. to 3:05 p.m.
There may be additional tinkering with schedules at local elementary schools, McFadzen notes, in order to further capitalize on bussing efficiencies. If alterations are made, she says the schools will notify parents.
