Weekend adventure challenge
Friday June 20 2008
Whether it’s recreational fun or a competitive challenge that gets your blood pumping, you’ll have the opportunity to combine fun and fitness at the Island Lake Adventure Challenge.
The challenge, being held on Sunday, July 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. combines cycling, canoeing, and hiking in three divisions: Competitive (20 km), Corporate (20 km), and Family & Friends (10 km).
“It’s not just for the competitive athletes, it’s for everyone,” says Friends of Island Lake committee member, Brenda Teeter.
Island Lake is home to the activities of many local residents.
“Fishing is a big draw,” Teeter says, “There’s lots of bass, they (the public) can cycle, hike, canoe and observe wildlife.”
The fundraising marathon will “raise funds for the trail system around Island Lake, which will join the south to the north shore (with a bridge)” as well as the Orangeville system and Bruce trail.
There will be prizes for the top three teams in each division, and to the highest pledge earners. A barbecue will be held throughout the day, and food is free to all participants.
Each team must consist of four people. The divisions commence as follows: Competitive division 9:30 a.m., entry fee of $200; Corporate division 11 a.m. entry fee of $500; Family & Friends 12:30 p.m. entry of $100.
