Lunch and learning go together if you are one of the people who attended a mid-day lecture at the public library in downtown Orangeville.
Although the 2008 Humber College lecture series is done for the spring, the fall line up is expected to be just as interesting, says Joe Andrews, director at the school’s Orangeville Campus. But a formal announcement on what’s to come for the series that began in 2007 is still to be announced.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity for people who want to learn different things. It attracts people from all walks of life; some are retirees, some (work nearby and) are off on lunch,” Andrews says. The 10 session series costs $175 or $20 per lecture.
Rosalind Thomas and her friend attended the last lecture for the season, which looked at health regulations around cosmetics and toiletries.
“As I get older I still want to learn. It keeps you alert,” says Thomas, 65, who retired two months ago from work as a floral designer.
“Every topic is so different, so unexpected. The ones that sound least interesting turn out to be dynamite,” says another woman sitting nearby.
Antonietta Perretta led the lecture called Saving Face. Perretta is the spa manager at Humber’s north campus in Toronto. For more information visit www.orangeville.humber.ca
