A five-year-old boy escaped serious injury during a motorcycle collision in Orangeville last Saturday (June 14). According to police, neither the boy nor the driver was wearing a helmet at the time.
“The boy, luckily, only suffered minor abrasions to his skin — the driver didn’t get any injuries at all,” says Const. Scott Davis, media relations officer.
The single-vehicle incident occurred shortly after 5 p.m., allegedly in view of two off-duty police officers credited with making an arrest. A 30-year-old Orangeville man faces five charges in relation to the incident.
The officers, police say, were at a baseball diamond in Rotary Park when the sound of an approaching motorcycle caught their attention and they observed the helmet-free riders.
“That in itself was a big concern and is definitely a huge problem,” Davis says, explaining the officers were preparing to take action when the driver lost control of his motorcycle and it tipped over.
The motorcycle, he adds, slid for several feet before coming to rest. Immediately, the off-duty officers ran over to help the victims and investigate.
“When the officers were placing him under arrest he struggled and ended up kicking both officers,” Davis tells The Banner, noting neither officer required medical attention.
Charged
Mark Frederick Chislett is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, impaired driving, driving while disqualified, assaulting a police officer and breach of probation.
