An 84-year-old Brampton woman died in hospital Thursday evening, hours after her vehicle collided with a dump truck in Caledon Village.
According to Caledon OPP, the woman was southbound on Kennedy Road at about 12:30 p.m. when her Buick collided with a westbound dump truck on Charleston Side Road.
“The collision occurred in the middle of the intersection,” says acting-Staff Sgt. Nikki Randall, noting no decision on charges has been made. “It is still under investigation.”
After being extricated from the wreckage by Caledon firefighters, the Brampton woman was taken by ambulance to Headwaters Health Care Centre (HHCC). She was subsequently airlifted to Sunnybrook Medical Centre in Toronto and succumbed to her injuries later that evening. Her name has not been released.
An 85-year-old female passenger in the Buick was taken to HHCC for treatment of serious injuries. The dump truck driver, a 54-year-old Brampton man, attended HHCC for assessment.
Police closed down the intersection for about nine hours to investigate; the OPP technical collision investigation unit was called to the scene.
